CMMS with Integrated Emergency Notification

In day to day management of real estate and properties, there are issues that need to be communicated to the occupants in a timely manner. There are cases when a scheduled repair such as a PM (preventive maintenance) work order on an elevator should be reported to the occupants. In other emergency cases, such as a case of broken main or an unfortunate case of a shooting in the vicinity, the residents need to be immediately alerted.

CMMS for Emergency Notifications

During the day, the maintenance and emergency issues are reported to the maintenance groups and in off hours they are reported to the security groups.  The issues are usually entered into a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System). However, the emergency alert is traditionally performed with another system which results in investment in acquisition and training of two separate systems. Also, at the time of an emergency, you would need to enter the data into two different systems which slows down the process.

An effective CMMS needs to manage the emergency alerts to achieve the most efficiency in timely managing the notifications.  Once an issue has come up which needs to be communicated to the occupants and other associated people, an alert is to be generated by following a few simple steps rapidly and efficiently.

• Query for a list of the people to be alerted by identifying the building, floor and areas
• A message to be composed with the proper supporting information and attachments as needed
• The message to be emailed or texted to each of the residents and their notification parties
• A complete history of the communications to be kept in the system

A robust CMMS provides the emergency alert capability as an integral part of its functionality and therefore streamlines the process by making it easier to handle such cases and reducing the needed time and effort to manage emergency notifications.
